Allogeneic transplantation, that is the process of transplanting stem cells taken from someone else, has some advantages and disadvantages. Although basic philosophy seems to be the same as autologous transplantation, patient's own tissue and organs may be damaged due to undetectable tissue incompatibilities despite full compatibility when cells of another person are transplanted. Immune cells of donor can damage the recipient's organs because by perceiving the patient's tissues as foreign. This can threaten the patient's life. In order to prevent this, it is necessary to take drugs that suppress the immune system for a long time. These drugs can also lead to some side effects in patients. The advantage of bone marrow cells taken from someone else is that these lymphoid cells can also detect and destroy cancer cells in the patient. For this reason, it is aimed to ensure that transplanted cells destroy cancer cells and their damaging effects to the patient are prevented as much as possible by delicately being adjusted these cells and drugs. The fact that this balance is well maintained extremely reduces the chances of recurrence of the disease with a very successful allogeneic transplantation.
