Oncology
Personalized and multidisciplinary treatment approach for cancer patients
Kidney Cancer
Kidney cancer constitutes about 2 to 3% of cancers, which are one of the most common diseases today. Cancer develops when malignant cells grow in the kidneys, which have important tasks in the body, such as filtering blood, cleaning, and producing urine, and have 150 grams weight. Even though its exact cause has not been fully defined yet, kidney cancer, that is thought it results from the causes such as genetic factors, smoking, obesity, high blood pressure and environmental factors, can be successfully treated owing to early diagnosis and appropriate treatment methods.
Brain Tumor
Symptoms of brain tumor can be listed as vomiting, severe headache, speech and visual impairment, weakness in the arms and legs. People who have symptoms of brain tumor should appeal to a neurosurgeon or neurologist. A fully equipped center, a team approach and an understanding of multidisciplinary treatment are very important for success in the brain tumor that is common in society.
Only about a third of brain tumors are cancerous. But cancerous or not, brain tumors can disrupt brain function if they grow large enough to put pressure on peripheral nerves, blood vessels, and tissue.
Tumors that develop in the brain are called primary tumors. Tumors, that spread to the brain after developed in different area of the body, are called metastatic tumors.
Skin Cancer
Skin (Derma) cancer is one of the most common cancers among cancers seen all over the world. Melanoma, which is one of the types of skin cancers in our country, has increased by 237% in the last 30 years. Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer, although it is the least common (less than 2%) among skin cancers.
Melanoma, which spreads to other organs, constitutes the majority of all skin cancer deaths. Basal cell cancers, that are among basal cell cancers and squamous cell cancers that are in the group of non-melanoma skin cancers, are commonly seen. While 1 million new cases are seen in the United States every year, this rate has a prevalence of 1,9 for every 100 thousand men and a prevalence of 1,3 for every 100 thousand women in our country. The rate of life loss in skin cancer is estimated to be 1 in every 100 patients.
Liver Cancer
Liver cancer, that is ranked at the 6th among the most common types of cancer in the world, threatens the lives of thousands of people every year in our country. Hepatitis B and C infections are the most important cause of liver cancer.
When liver cancer, which may not give any typical symptoms at the early stage, is diagnosed, it may be too late for treatment planning. For this reason, liver cancer must be diagnosed early. As it progresses, removal of the tumor or liver transplantation are discussed in liver cancer that shows symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, loss of appetite, constant abdominal swelling, fluid accumulation, weakness, and jaundice.
Colon Cancer
Colon cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the world. According to statistics of the Ministry of Health, colon (large intestine) cancer is also among the top 5 of most common types of cancer in our country. Although there is a risk of colon cancer occurring at any age, it is most often observed after the age of 50. When its distribution based on sex is examined, colon cancer is ranked at the 2nd stage in women and the 3rd stage in men.
Surgical applications, which havea very important place in the treatment, are now performed laparoscopically, in other words, as closed, and have a positive effect on the patient's quality of life and psychology.
Lymphoma
Lymph cancer, whose prevalence increases in society with age, is a disease that affects men and women equally. Lymphoma can reveal itself with different symptoms. Among the symptoms of lymphoma, a flu that does not disappear for a long time, dry cough reminiscent of asthma, and swelling of only one of the tonsils are signs that must be paid attention.
Despite increased risk factors and an increase in prevalence of the disease in recent years, quite successful results have been obtained in the treatment of lymphoma. With today's treatments, over 90 percent success can be achieved in some lymphoma subtypes. In cases where there is no response to the treatment, stem cell transplantation is also among the most important options for controlling lymphoma disease as well as special medications called “rational drugs” that target only the cancer cell.
Breast Cancer
Breast cancer, the most common type of cancer in women, has made great progress in terms of diagnosis and treatment in the last 20 years. Thanks to early diagnosis, the chance of getting rid of this disease has increased with surgical options that protect the breast. Early diagnosed breast cancer is a disease that can be completely treated.
The most common finding in breast cancer is a painless mass. However, pain may accompany the mass in 10-20% of patients. Whether there is pain in the person is not a criterion in determining the importance of the mass. In the presence of a mass, clinical examination and imaging examinations should be performed according to the results.
Bladder Cancer
Bladder cancer is the fourth most common cancer in men and the eighth most common cancer in women. There are different types of bladder cancer. Most bladder cancers are Transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). This is also known as urothelial carcinoma.
The most common form of bladder cancer begins in the cells in the innermost tissue layer of the bladder. Bladder cancer is a type of cancer that can be treated at a high rate when it is diagnosed early.
Stomach (Gastric) Cancer
Stomach cancer, which is the 5th most common cancer type among all cancers in the world, develops with the formation of malignant (cancerous) cells in the stomach membrane. Stomach cancer is a treatable disease with early diagnosis.
The stomach wall consists of 5 layers of tissue. From the innermost layer to the outermost layer, the layers of the stomach wall are: mucosa, submucosa, muscle, subserosa (connective tissue), and serosa. Stomach cancer starts in the mucosa and spreads to the outer layers as it grows.
If Stomach cancer is not diagnosed and treated early, it can spread lymphatically to nearby lymph nodes or other parts of the body, such as the liver and lungs, through the bloodstream.
Stomach cancer can also spread to the abdominal walls (peritoneum) and rarely grow from the stomach wall to nearby organs such as the pancreas and intestine.
Cervical Cancer
Cervical cancer is the second most common type of cancer among women, and it is caused by HPV (Human Papillomavirus) at a rate of 98%. It is known that at least 2 out of every 100 women have cervical cancer at some point in their lives. However, with the measures taken against cervical cancer, the rate of women not encountering cancer throughout their lives is very high.
Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that occurs in the cervical cells, the lower part of the cervix that connects to the vagina. Various types of the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is actually an infection, play a role in most cervical cancers. When the immune system encounters HPV, it prevents damage to the body, but in some people, the virus survives and contributes to the process that causes some cervical cells to turn into cancer cells. While HPV is a virus that also causes genital warts, it is known to be transmitted sexually. HPV, which has become quite widespread in recent years, has more than 100 species. These viruses can be classified into two classes as low and high risk, depending on whether they cause cancer or not. HPV, which causes warts in various parts of the body in men and women, both reduces the quality of life and can cause cervical cancer in women. HPV, which can also cause penis cancer, also has high social effects. Correct guidance and information of patients is at least as important as treatment options.
Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancer types in men, and in terms of frequency, it is 28 per 100,000 in the world, while this rate is slightly higher in our country, it is 37 per 100,000. According to the data of the American Cancer Society, it was reported that the lifetime risk of prostate cancer for men was 16.7% and the risk of loss of life was 2.5%.
One in every 5-6 men has a lifetime risk of developing prostate cancer. While a person is diagnosed with prostate cancer every 3 minutes in the world, life losses due to prostate cancer every 14 minutes.
Prostate cancer is among the types of cancer with high treatment success when caught at an early stage. Since it is usually a cancer that does not show symptoms at the initial stage, every man from the age of 40 must undergo annual prostate examinations and blood tests.
Among the surgical applications that have a very important place in the treatment of prostate cancer, with the revolutionary "da Vinci Robotic Surgery System" in the medical world, the patient has important privileges in terms of quality of life as well as achieving a cancer-free life. With robotic surgery, it is possible to better protect the nerves, which have duties such as holding urine and ensuring the continuation of sexual life.
Thyroid Cancer
Thyroid cancer is the uncontrolled division and growth of abnormal cells in the thyroid gland.
Thyroid cancer, which is butterfly-shaped and occurs in the thyroid gland located in the lower part of the neck, is among the cancer types with the highest treatment success when diagnosed early. Among the most important risk factors for thyroid cancer, which raise suspicion with symptoms such as hoarseness, difficulty in breathing, and swallowing, there are family history, radiation to the neck, and mutations at the cellular level. Thyroid cancer is treated with surgery and radioactive iodine treatment.
Thoracic Cancer
Thoracic cancer refers to a group of complex malignancies that develop within the chest cavity, most commonly affecting the lungs, esophagus, and mediastinum, the area between the lungs that houses vital structures like the heart and major blood vessels. Because of their location and the intricate anatomy involved, these cancers often require a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment, involving specialists in oncology, surgery, radiology, and other fields to provide comprehensive and effective care.
Brain Surgery
Brain surgery refers to surgical procedures performed on the brain and surrounding structures to treat neurological conditions. It is often required to remove tumors, repair blood vessel abnormalities, relieve pressure inside the skull, or manage seizure disorders. At our center, brain surgery is performed by highly skilled neurosurgeons using advanced imaging and surgical techniques to ensure precision, safety, and optimal recovery. Every treatment plan is tailored to the patient’s condition, medical history, and recovery goals.
