Solution to Bladder Cancer with Robotic Surgery

Solution to Bladder Cancer with Robotic Surgery

Bladder cancer ranks 4th among the most common cancers in men and 9th in women. The disease, which is caused by 50% of smoking, threatens the lives of approximately 165,000 people every year in the world. In the past, applications that negatively affect the postoperative quality of life of patients with bladder cancer can now be eliminated thanks to robotic technology. Thanks to Da Vinci Robotic Surgery, which is performed only in 10-15 centres in the world and only in Memorial Şişli Hospital in our country, patients live a comfortable and quality life. Memorial Şişli Hospital Urology Department Specialists gave information about bladder cancer surgeries performed with da Vinci Robotic Surgery.

THE CAUSE OF BLADDER CANCER IS SMOKING

Bladder cancers are the most common type of cancer associated with tobacco and tobacco products after prostate cancer in men. Today, due to the increase in smoking, the rate of bladder cancer also increases significantly in women. Toxic substances mixed with cigarette blood are purified from the circulation by the kidneys and transferred to the urine for excretion from the whole body. Cancer can occur due to the effect of these chemical poisons in the inner cover cells of the urinary tract where the urine contacts. The most common cancer development is seen in the bladder. The bladder is a urine storage organ, and its internal structure is in long-term contact with these cells. Therefore, the most effective way to prevent bladder cancer is not to smoke.

TREATMENT IS PLANNED ACCORDING TO THE CONDITION OF THE DISEASE

The most important symptom of bladder cancer is blood in the urine. However, the definitive diagnosis is made by entering the urinary tract with a miniature telescope called 'cystoscopy' and taking the sample tissue. With this pathological examination, grading, which is another factor reflecting the type, depth and risk of spread of cancer, is performed. In the light of this information, the treatment method to be applied to the patient is planned. Depending on the patient's condition, administering medication into the bladder, chemotherapy, or surgical removal of the bladder are the treatment options for the disease.

ROBOT TECHNOLOGY PROVIDES COMFORT TO THE PATIENT

When bladder cancer surgery is performed with open surgery, it is among the most complicated surgeries. With the introduction of robot technology in bladder cancer surgeries, surgeries are generally in the form of a combination of closed and open surgery. A robot removes the bladder and lymph nodes, the construction of the new bladder will accumulate urine, the connection of the channels from the kidneys to the bladder, and finally, the joining of the formed and urine-storing new bladder with the canal that carries the urine out is performed with open surgery. Memorial Şişli Hospital is one of the rare centres in the world where all of these surgical procedures are performed with robots. The surgery is completed by entering through several holes without creating an incision scar in the body with robot technology. The patient's recovery time is shortened, the need for painkillers is reduced, damage to other organs in the body is prevented, and the patient returns to his normal life quickly.
